Loaded French Fries – French fries are topped with caramelized onions, American cheese, and a homemade burger sauce. The best loaded fries you’ve ever had!

skillet full of loaded french fries

Today’s recipe is a simple one – Loaded French Fries! Who doesn’t love a plate full of fries, topped with cheese, onions, and a flavorful sauce?! And what’s even better – the most work you’ll do for this recipe is making the sauce, which can totally be made ahead of time.

In addition to making the sauce, you’ll also caramelize the onions a little to get a nice, deep flavor on them. They then get sprinkled over crispy crinkle fries. American cheese is added over the top and then the fries are placed under the broiler to get the cheese gooey. Who knew something so yummy could be so simple?!

Here are my Loaded French Fries!

Tips & Tricks

  1. Melt the cheese. Make sure you let the cheese get super melted before taking it out of the broiler.
  2. Make the sauce ahead of time. The flavors in the sauce marry best over time. Therefore, I suggest making it ahead of time and letting it sit before adding it to the fries.
  3. Caramelize the onions. The onions taste best with just a hint of char around the outside. So make sure you let them cook long enough to build that flavor.

Loaded French Fries

Prep Time30 minutes mins
Cook Time20 minutes mins
Total Time50 minutes mins
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

For the burger sauce:
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoons sweet relish
  • ¼ tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
For the fries:
  • 1 pound frozen extra-crispy crinkle fries
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ large sweet onion diced
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 slices American cheese
  • burger sauce recipe above

Instructions

  • Mix all burger sauce ingredients together until combined. Cover and let sit in the fridge while you make the rest of the ingredients. The longer the sauce sits, the deeper the flavor gets.
  • Place the French fries in a preheated air fryer or oven and cook according to package instructions. Once done, place them in a cast iron skillet or baking pan. Set aside.
  • In a medium skillet, add butter and diced sweet onion. Place over medium heat. Cook until onion turns soft and starts to char a little, about 10 minutes. Stir ocassionally.
  • Set oven to broil. Sprinkle diced onion over the cooked fries in the cast iron. Top with American cheese. Place under broiler until the cheese is very very melty but not burning. Remove from oven and drizzle with half of the burger sauce. Serve the rest on the side.

I love poutine but this beats it! The burger sauce on top was so delicious! It’s my favorite dip and addition for burgers but I never thought to just pour it over fries.

I love loaded french fries and most the time I can only get them when I go out. This recipe made it so easy for me to make at home, which might actually be dangerous for my diet, LOL!

There’s something about the first cool morning o There’s something about the first cool morning of fall that just feels different. 🍂

You step outside, the air is crisp, the leaves have that faint earthy smell… and suddenly all you want is pumpkin spice, warm muffins, and cozy socks.

Mini Pumpkin Doughnut Muffins - They’re soft, cakey, perfectly spiced, and coated in buttery cinnamon sugar. It’s like a pumpkin doughnut met a muffin and decided to make your morning ten times better.

The best part? They’re baked, not fried, which means you can totally justify having more than one.

There’s something about digging into a bowl of s There’s something about digging into a bowl of soup that reminds you of cozy evenings. The soft glow of the kitchen light, the aroma of buttery potatoes, cheese melting, and bacon crisping.

This loaded potato soup is all of that and more: tender chunks of potato, a rich creamy base, sharp cheddar, smoky bacon, green onions popping with flavor. It’s hearty comfort food at its finest.

It started on a night when I needed something substantial, something that felt like a hug in a bowl, and this soup answered the call.

Would you rather serve yours with an extra drizzle of melted cheese on top or let it sit so the flavors mingle?

I first experimented with chocolate + peanut butter cookies late one winter evening, trying to recreate that bakery magic I remembered from childhood.

Some of the best meals come from desperation—and Some of the best meals come from desperation—and this Chili Mac & Cheese was born on one of those nights. I had leftover chili and boxes of pasta, and I thought “why not combine them?”

What came out was something magical: creamy cheese sauce folding into hearty chili, elbow macaroni soaking up every bit of flavor, topped with melty cheese and baked to a golden crust. It’s comfort food squared.

This is my go-to when I want something filling, nostalgic, and totally satisfying.

There’s just something about warm, soft pretzels There’s just something about warm, soft pretzels that feels like pure comfort, especially when there’s beer cheese involved.

I still remember the first time I made homemade pretzel bites. The smell that filled my kitchen was unreal, buttery, toasty, and a little sweet. Then came the beer cheese dip… creamy, tangy, with just the right amount of sharp cheddar bite.

It instantly took me back to lazy weekend afternoons spent at my favorite pub, where every appetizer came with a story and a side of laughter.

If you’ve never made pretzel bites at home before, don’t worry, they’re easier than you think, and the results are so worth it.

Warm, golden bites + rich beer cheese = the snack you’ll want on repeat all fall long. 🍂
