Pigs in a Blanket Wreath – Mini hot dogs wrapped in dough, arranged in a festive wreath, and baked to perfection. Served with Dr Pepper® honey mustard dipping sauce

Pigs in a Blanket Wreath with a bowl of dr. pepper honey mustard dipping sauce in the middleThe holiday season may be in full-swing, but don’t let that make you forget about football this month! College bowl games are starting so you need to make sure you keep up the snacks to keep all your family and friends fed while they’re glued to the TV.

You probably remember me talking about my love of homegating in this post. And it’s especially true during this time of year! It’s so incredibly cold outside, so there is no way you’ll find me tailgating at the stadium. Plus, with all the bowl games going on, I love being able to switch back-and-forth between my favorites on TV.

Today, I’m here to bring you another recipe to add to your homegating collection. And this one has just the right amount of festive flare to get you into the spirit of the season.

I present to you my Pigs in a Blanket Wreath!

If you were a fan of the blog last year, you saw me post another yummy treat in a wreath. Remember this cinnamon roll wreath??? I am a sucker for a festive treat so you know I just had to make these little pigs in a blanket into the shape of a wreath, too.

The wreath isn’t hard to assemble at all. You just make the little pigs in a blanket like you normally do -using crescent dough and mini hot dogs – but just arrange them in a ring and bake. Simple as that! I added a little poppy seeds to step up the presentation a little. But if you have picky little eaters, you can leave them off.

When serving the wreath, don’t forget the dipping sauce! I love honey mustard with my hot dogs so that’s what I wanted to serve with this wreath. But not just any honey mustard. No, no. This is a Dr Pepper honey mustard, guys! I make a killer Dr Pepper mustard glaze for my Thanksgiving ham so I know first-hand how well Dr Pepper pairs with the mustard flavors.

Plus, this Dr Pepper honey mustard dipping sauce will make sure that this snack tastes great with your glass of Dr Pepper. This sweet drink is the perfect accompaniment to the salty treat. Also check for the 2-liter football bottles as well. They’re great for having out at your homegating party!

To get all my homegating supplies, I made a trip to my local Walmart. Of course, on the day I needed to shop, it snowed like crazy so I decided to use Walmart’s Grocery Pickup option so I could sit warmly in my car while a Walmart employee brought me my groceries.

It’s so simple to use! All I did was download the Walmart Grocery app, select my local Walmart, and started making my list. When I finished, I set my pickup time and arranged my payment.

When I received an email that the order was ready, I made my way to Walmart and located the parking spots on the side of the main entrance. There are signs everywhere in bright orange so you won’t miss them! I alerted the store that I arrived and an employee brought out my stuff and handed them to my husband who loaded the car. It’s as simple as that!

To make this recipe go as smoothly as possible, here are a few tips to help you out:

  1. When working with the crescent dough, make sure you move fast. As the dough warms, the stickier it gets. And you don’t want to work with this dough when it starts to glue itself to the countertop.
  2. For the Dr Pepper sauce, you’ll need to reduce the Dr Pepper by cooking it on the stove. This will take 15 minutes and then you’ll need for it to cool before using so make sure to give yourself enough time.
  3. The wreath is popping hot right out of the oven so give it a few minutes before serving it to your guests

Isn’t this wreath the cutest?! Don’t forget the rosemary when serving -it adds the perfect touch!

Pigs in a Blanket Wreath

Mini hot dogs wrapped in dough, arranged in a festive wreath, and baked to perfection. Served with Dr Pepper honey mustard dipping sauce
Prep Time10 minutes mins
Cook Time15 minutes mins
Total Time30 minutes mins
Servings: 24 mini pigs in a blanket

Ingredients

For the pigs in a blanket:
  • 1 8 ounce-tube crescent rolls
  • 24 mini hot dogs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 teaspoons poppyseeds
For the dipping sauce:
  • 1 cup Dr Pepper
  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  • Start by reducing the Dr Pepper for the honey mustard. Place 1 cup Dr Pepper in a small sauce pan and bring to a boil. Boil until it's reduced to 1/3 cup, which will take about 10-15 minutes. While you wait, you can prepare the wreath.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove crescent rolls from tube and separated from perforated lines so you have 8 triangles. Cut each triangle into three pieces. Stretch out one piece of dough a little and begin to roll hot dog into it, starting at the wider end. Repeat with rest of dogs.
  • Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet. Arrange wrapped pigs into a wreath shape on prepared baking sheet. Whisk large egg and teaspoon of water together in a small bowl. Brush mixture onto wreath, covering all of the dough. Sprinkle on some salt and poppy seeds. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until tops are golden brown.
  • Dr Pepper should be reduced by now. Remove from pan and place in a small cup to cool. I place mine in the fridge to help it cool down faster. Once cool, add two tablespoons of the reduction to the rest of the dipping sauce ingredients. Whisk together to combine.
  • Place dipping sauce in a ramekin and place in the center of the wreath. Garnish wreath with rosemary leaves, if desired.

I liked the idea, you need to cook or buy puff pastry, wrap the pigs-sausages in strips of dough, fold the blankets with a wreath, and put them in the oven. And do not forget about the side dish when serving. Thank you for the recipe.

They are in the oven now… stay tuned and I’ll have my son Sean give his review shortly!….
Sean says… Yummo! When I said I was going to try to make these he kept asking me… Mom are you doing pigs in a blanket tonight. Finally went to the store and got the crescent rolls and went to town! I baked them on my pizza stone and they turned out great! Not a fan of Dr. Pepper… sorry I’m a yankee! But made the sauce without it and it was still awesome! Thanks for the recipe! Definitely “Sean Approved”! I have a picture if you want me to send it!
    Thanks again!
    Happy cooking!

Classic Pot Roast – chuck roast slowly cooked in Classic Pot Roast – chuck roast slowly cooked in a jus made of beef broth, carrots, celery, and onions! Balsamic vinegar, thyme, and mustard give that jus a kick of flavor!

Cold weather is in full effect, you guys! So comfort food needs to be on the menu! My husband wanted to try a good pot roast, so I used a combination of recipes to come up with the perfect one!

The secret? Traditional aromatics (carrots, celery, onions) PLUS balsamic vinegar and Dijon mustard set this roast apart with a tangy kick!

Pro tip: Sear the roast first to give it beautiful color on the outside – if you skip this step, the meat will look almost gray when cooked in the broth!

Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Sage Browned Butter – Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Sage Browned Butter – fluffy pillows of sweet potato dumplings tossed in a sage and browned butter sauce for a comforting pasta dish you didn't know you needed!

This gnocchi was inspired by a dish I had at a local restaurant years ago, you guys! I was skeptical about sweet potato gnocchi with just butter and sage – no cream? no tomato? But MAN, was I wrong!

The sweet potato gnocchi is even MORE flavorful than the original! It shines on its own with little help from a heavy sauce – that's why it pairs so perfectly with a light toss in sage and browned butter!

Pro tip: Use a potato ricer to break up the sweet potatoes – don't use a food processor or it will make the gnocchi gummy and pasty! The ricer makes it super fluffy!

Perfect for fall dinners, Thanksgiving, date nights, or anytime you want restaurant-quality comfort food at home!

These are also known as old-fashioned doughnuts, you guys! They're bulky, firm on the outside, but oh-so-moist on the inside! The BEST combination of textures – crunchy yet chewy, dense yet moist!

I fell in love with these at a local bakery, and now my husband surprises me with them from time to time! Do I have a great man or what?!

Pro tip: Don't roll the dough too thin or the doughnuts will turn to hockey pucks when you fry them! You're better off making the dough too thick than too thin!

I'm more of a green enchiladas fan than red, you guys! While this sauce isn't traditional green enchilada sauce, it's got similar flavor notes! Plus, with the added milk, it's super creamy and decadent!

The secret? A roux makes the sauce ultra creamy without needing tons of heavy cream!

Pro tip: Don't skip the lime juice! It's KEY to balancing out the flavors – this is NOT an optional ingredient!
